Audit finds GSU out of compliance

Grambling State University’s financial processes over the past two fiscal years were out of compliance in four areas, three of which had to do with students’ information and money, according to a new state audit released last week.

Girls Who Code kicks off STEM Center camps

The Lincoln Parish STEM Center kicked off its 2022 summer schedule of camps with both Girls Who Code and Girls Who Code II. During the first session each day, young female beginning coders had the opportunity to work with mentor leaders who went through the camp last summer. Freighthouse Food Park groundbreaking

Salty Brahma holds ribbon cutting in Jonesboro

Jackson Parish Chamber of Commerce members, family and friends joined Wendall and Melanie Bryant and Chad and Mallory Hall for a ribbon cutting at the Salty Brahma, located on Jimmie Davis Blvd. in Jonesboro recently. The Salty Brahma is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They invite the public to drop by and visit. Krewe of Pomona ready to make its debut on the local scene

Out of the ashes of the Krewe of Allegro, the Krewe of Pomona has been born. The Krewe of Allegro, founded by the Ruston Civic Symphony Society in 1999 to raise funds for the arts, has retired to make way for the Krewe of Pomona.

Flag Day retirement ceremony held

A flag retirement ceremony was held by the VFW Post 3615 and Owens Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home Tuesday on Flag Day to properly dispose of local flags. Following the protocol set forth by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, veterans retired dozens of flags turned in over the past year. Right, Stanley Freeman and District 11 Commander Philip Lawrence fold the American flag while above, volunteers Thomas “Block” Aiken and Rick Godley move the prepared flags into the pit for the burning ceremony.
