Lincoln Prep’s Mayfield, Hudson garner 2-1A honors

After two respective playoff seasons, the Lincoln Prep and Cedar Creek boys basketball teams’ best earned all-district honors with the 2022-23 season officially in the books.

As the leading scorer for the Division IV select runner-up Panthers, senior forward Bralyn Mayfield was named District 2- 1A MVP for a big finish to his prep basketball career.

In the Division IV select title game, Mayfield scored a season-high 32 points to put up his 18th and final doubledouble of the season in 27 games played.

Antonio Hudson, head coach of the Panthers, was named District 2-1A Coach of the Year as he led Prep to an undefeated district championship, winning their league games by an average of 25 points.

Hudson’s squad en-tered the Division IV select playoffs as the No. 2 seed and made it to the state championship game but lost to Northwood- Lena to finish the season as runner-up for the second time in the last four seasons.

As for the first-team selections, Cedar Creek senior Carter Hill and Prep senior Brandon Heard received the nod from district coaches.

Creek senior Davis Walsworth was the lone second-team selection for the Cougars, while Prep junior Stephen Burks III and senior Kobe Mack made second- team all- district as valuable starters to each of their teams.

To round out the all-district picks, Cedar Creek seniors Jack Echols, Connor Norris, and Brian Osborne were named as honorable mentions along with Prep guard Joseph Spann.
