Graveside services with immediate family present will be held for Mansfield native, Rosemary Huff, age 90, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 10 a. m. at Highland Cemetery in Mansfield.

Officiating under the direction of Kilpatrick’s Rose- Neath Funeral Home is Dr. Chad Hardbarger.

Rosemary was born September 6, 1932, and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1950. She enrolled at Louisiana Tech, graduating Magna Cum Laude with an English education degree in 1954. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Teaching was her passion.

Her first teaching position was at Sulphur High School. She later taught at Bolton High School, Alexandria, Louisiana Baptist College in Pineville, and Memphis State University. She took time off to continue her education, receiving her Master’s Degree from LSU in 1963.

The remaining bulk of her 35-year teaching career was as Professor of English at SFA University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

She retired in 1989 and after several more years in Texas, she moved back to the old home place in Mansfield, but difficult health issues dictated her move to the Ruston area to be close to family.

Rosemary loved to travel, making several trips to Europe and England was a special delight. She was never without a book to read.

Her fondness for animals lead her to lend assistance in the humane treatment of all creatures great and small. Two Doxies, Chinky and Choo- Choo were her constant companions during their lifetime.

She is preceded in death by her parents, F.A. Huff, Sr., and Jewel Bridwell Huff; her sister, Nancy H. Whittington; and her brother, F.A. (Buddy) Huff, Jr.

She is survived by one sister, Mary Francis Huff Lewllyan and husband James; niece, Rebecca Spears Ort and husband Doug; and their twin boys, Bridwell and Tyler Ort; niece, Lisa Kathleen Pemberton; brother- in- law, Jerry Whittington; nephew, Brent Whittington and wife Jeanie; and their children, Banks, Miller, and Grady; nephew, Chad Whittington and wife Lashlee and their children, twins, William and Louise and name sake, Rosemary ( Rosie); sister- in- law, Mary (Cissy) Huff and nephew Carl Alton.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the years of health assistance provided by Magnolia Home Health, Arcadia, and to Tender Touch, Simsboro, for caring in home sitters, especially Dee Horsley for being caretaker, companion and “ drill sergeant.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, United Methodist Children’s Home or DeSoto Parish Animal Services.
