Bernita Lynn Patterson

Bernita Lynn Patterson was born on July 9, 1954, in Nashville, Arkansas. She was the first child and only girl born to the late Ezekiel Patterson and Juanita Davis Patterson, who preceded her in death.

Bernita was baptized and attended New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling.

Bernita attended and graduated from Grambling High School in 1972. She attended Grambling State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and received her B.A. in Psychology. Bernita continued her education at Southern Illinois University where she received her M.A. in Counseling Psychology and later obtain her Ph.D in Counseling Psychology/Career Education. She has been able to work and live in various places with her education background such as Iowa State University Staff Psychologist, Student Counseling Service (June 1979-June-1980), AT& T Bell Laboratories Career Education Specialist ( February 1982-July 1985); Prairie View A&M University Associate Director of Counseling and Career Development ( April 1986- September 1987); University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Assistant Professor Emeritus of Psychology Adopted 26th day of January 2017, Director of the Office of Counseling and Testing (September 1987- December 1997), Assistant Professor, Social and Behavioral Sciences/ Coordinator, Alcohol and Drug Research (1977 to Present).

Among this, Bernita was a loving, kind, gentle, and meek person. She was the encourager of the group, always pushing others to be great and do their best. Bernita had a great love for Soul and R&B music.

Bernita was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Epsilon Psi Omega, Chapter Grambling. She has proudly served the organization for 50 years and received the honor of a Golden Soror Life Consecutive status.

Bernita was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Everett Carl Patterson, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memories two brothers, Eric Patterson Grambling, and E. Kenneth Patterson (Belinda) of Georgia; a sister in law, Vanessa Patterson; two nephews, Everett Patterson and Evan Patterson; and a host of friends and other family members.
