The Ruston Police Department is seeking information in two unrelated Easter morning incidents: a shooting and a one-vehicle collision with downtown streetlights.

Police seek leads in Easter shooting

An early Easter morning shooting on South Farmerville Street left one Ruston woman injured and police asking for the public’s help to find the gunman.

Police Chief Steve Rogers said Monday investigators don’t know what caused the shooter or shooters to open fire near the Y 2 Cuts hair salon. Bullets also struck four vehicles in the parking lot and building, he said.

The 35-year-old victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the hip, Rogers said. She was transported to Northern Louisiana Medical Center by private vehicle before police arrived. She was later transferred to a Shreveport hospital.

Investigators ask that anyone with any information about the incident call RPD at 318-255-4141 or Crime Stoppers at 318-255-1111.

Tips may also be submitted online at rustonlincolncrimestoppers.com or text “TIP515” to Crimes (274637) to send a text message. Tipsters remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward for information up to $5,000.

Police look for vehicle that plowed into streetlights

Ruston police are looking for a dark-colored Mercedes Benz that plowed into two decorative streetlights at the corner of East Georgia Avenue and North Trenton Street on Sunday morning.

The incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. Police Chief Steve Rogers said video footage from the location shows the car heading west on East Georgia and attempting to turn onto North Trenton.

But the unidentified driver failed the make the turn, careening into the first lamppost that appears to hit on the driver’s side headlight area, then jumping onto the sidewalk before hitting the second lamppost.

The driver continued south on North Trenton. Part of the vehicle’s exhaust system was found between where the two poles once stood. Police believe the vehicle sustained severe damage to the front and undercarriage.

Investigators ask that anyone with any information about the incident call RPD at 318-255-4141 or Crime Stoppers at 318-255-1111.
