Kersey Gaines Block

A private graveside service for Kersey Gaines Block, infant daughter of Julie Diane Cantrell and Christian Allen Block, will be held Wednesday November 30, 2011.  Rev. Jason McInnis will officiate the service.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston.

Connor Blake Strain-Turner

A graveside service for Connor Blake Strain-Turner, infant son of Rebecca Lynn Strain and Kyle Blake Turner, will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Douglas Cemetery near Choudrant.  Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Patrick Michael McGowan


Funeral services for Patrick Michael McGowan age 51, of Dubach will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dale Oden. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Dorothy Moseley Perkins


Mrs. Dorothy Moseley Perkins, of Ruston, La., went to be with Jesus on the 25th day of November, 2011. She was the widow of Marion Perkins.

Miriam Eugenia (Bobbie) Bennett


Miriam Eugenia (Bobbie) Bennett died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the age of 83. Mrs. Bennett was born to the union of Reason Waymond and Henrietta Burnside Rhodes on October 27, 1928, in El Dorado, Arkansas, and was a resident of Spearsville, Louisiana for most of her life.

A graduate of Louisiana Tech University, she worked as a secretary at Lion Oil and Murphy Oil Corporations in El Dorado for many years. On January 6, 1948, she married Ralph Bennett, a union which lasted until he passed away in 2004.

Alan D. Woods

Funeral services for Mr. Alan D. Woods, 82, of Farmerville will be 10:00am Tuesday, November 29th at First Baptist Church, Farmerville with Bro. Kurt Auger and Bro. Andy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

Mr. Woods was retired from BC Telephone and was a member of First Baptist Church, Farmerville. He passed away November 26, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Charles Oliver and 1 brother, Eric Henry John Woods.

Russel Carl Fleeman


Russel Carl Fleeman of Monroe, Louisiana, died in his sleep on Saturday, November 26, 2011 of complications from pneumonia. He was born on May 12, 1918 at home in the country outside Manila, Arkansas. The sixth and youngest child of Horace Mack and Ollie Burton Fleeman of Manila, Russel was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Charles and Eugene Fleeman, and by his sisters, Hazel Meyer and Nellie Townsend. Russel was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ann Ross.

Luther Ray Strahan, Jr.

Luther Ray Strahan, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2011 in Ruston, LA at the age of 88. A native of Bernice and long time resident of Gretna, LA, he had lived in Ruston since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bettye Jo Crawford of Ruston. He is also survived by his son, Kenneth Strahan (Lilly); daughter-in-law, Candace V. Strahan; son-in-law, Steven R. Hart; and his two brothers, James Truett Strahan (Doris) and Richard Roy Strahan (Barbara).

Jimmie Richard Howell

Jimmie Richard Howell, age 90, of Simsboro, Louisiana passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011. He was born in Arcadia, Louisiana on November 11, 1921 to James Thomas Howell, Sr. and Sarah Ellen Durrett Howell.

Jimmie graduated from Simsboro High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and retired from Southern Natural Gas as a Field Operator after 30 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Louise Riser and Dorothy Mae Spencer; and brother: James Thomas Howell, Jr.

Dale Watson

Graveside services will be held for Dale Watson, age 91, at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, November 25, 2011, at Hurricane Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 25, 2011 from 10:00 until 12:00 p.m.

Mr. Watson was born September 11, 1920, in Arcadia, LA, to Earl and Elvye Byrd Watson. He entered into rest on November 22, 2011, in Homer, LA. He worked in the oilfield as a roughneck.

He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Elvye Watson, brothers Doyle C. Watson and Ruey H. Watson and by a special loved one, Odelle Johnson.
