While the 2023-24 season is fresh underway, Louisiana Tech Men’s Basketball head coach Talvin Hester announced Friday the signing of three players – Landren Blocker, Anthony “AJ” Bates Jr., and Albert “Al” Green – to national letters of intent.

The fifth-grade class of A.E. Phillips Laboratory School held a Veterans Day program Friday afternoon in Howard Auditorium on Louisiana Tech University campus. In honor of Veterans Day and Literacy Month, the Auxiliary for VFW Post 3615 coordinated a Veterans Reading Day for regular story time at the Lincoln Parish Library. Members of the local VFW Post were on hand to read to children and adults alike while also passing out Buddy Poppy stickers and American flags to the youth. The Auxiliary salutes Library Children’s Director Sheila Montgomery for partnering with the VFW groups.
I grew up the son of an English teacher. Not the kind of English that kids seem to get in school these days — the kind that’s all about reading literature texts and picking out themes, without making sure students have a grasp of the actual mechanics of the language itself.
