Sybil Alyne Farmer Leachman

Sybil Alyne Farmer Leachman was born September 18, 1930, in Downsville to John Farmer and Floye Maxwell Farmer.

She departed this life on August 11, 2021, with her family by her side.

A memorial service will be Friday, August 13, 2021, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ruston. Interment will be at New Hope Cemetery following the memorial service.

Visitation will be Friday, August 13, 2021, from 10-11 a.m. Dr. Chris Craig will officiate under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston.

She was a graduate of Downsville High School and Louisiana Tech University with a master’s from Northwestern State University. She gained additional schooling from the University of Mississippi. She taught at Downsville High School for four years before returning to Louisiana Tech to teach.

She taught in the Health and Physical Education Department for 28 years, plus additional years as adjunct faculty after retirement. She married Billy Leachman in March of 1952 at the Downsville Methodist Church.

Dr. Douglas McGuire performed the ceremony and later attended their 50th wedding celebration.

After her retirement she and Billy traveled to 28 different countries of the world. On a few trips they were accompanied by Tammy or one or more grandchildren.

She was a member of First Baptist Church for 59 years. For many years she taught Sunday school, was an active member of W.M.U., served on the building committee, pastor search committee, and many other committees. She loved her pastor, her church, and her Sunday school class members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Edward Leachman; parents, and one brother, Herbert Farmer.

She is survived by two children, son Allan Keith (Skip) Leachman and wife Angie, daughter Tammy Coates and husband Scott, all of Ruston; five grandchildren, Michael and wife Angeline of Baton Rouge, Dusty and wife Jia of Kissimee, Fla., Robby and wife Abigail of Ruston, Katey Plummer and husband Casey of Dallas, and Kennedy Haddox and husband Jeremy of Ruston. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Daniel and Claire Leachman, Caroline, Coates, and Katherine Plummer, Hudson and Annie Haddox, and Adeline Leachman.

Pallbearers are Roddy Banks, Jeremy Haddox, Dusty Leachman, Michael Leachman, Robby Leachman, Scotty Leachman, Dan O’Neal and Casey Plummer.

She is also survived by a sister, Sally Leachman of Ruston; and a brother, Butch Farmer of Downsville; two sisters in law, Brenda Norris of Ruston and Carolyn Banks of Ruston.

Her ashes will be dispersed with those of her beloved Billy on the highest hill of their family farm. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
