Patricia Anne “Pat” Smith

Patricia Anne “Pat” Smith (Thomas) died on December 27, 2020 in Ruston, LA at the age of 87.

Pat is survived by her three children, Douglas Smith (Elizabeth) of Colorado Springs, CO; Gregory Smith (Mary) of Langhorne, PA; and Brenda Bowman (Tom) of Ruston, LA; Pat is also survived by a brother Robert (Lola) Thomas of Stuarts Draft, VA, and sister Nancy (John) Jacques of Bradenton, FL. Pat is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Taylor Smith (Chelsey) of Parachute, CO, Collin Smith of Colorado Springs, CO (Doug); Joshua Smith of Horsham, PA, Brian Smith of Groton, CT (Greg); Thomas “TJ” Bowman (Tiffany) of Ruston, LA, Zachary Bowman (Joely) of Ruston, LA, Sarah Bowman of Ruston, LA, and Rose Bowman (Cameron) of Ruston, LA (Brenda); and four greatgrandchildren; Lincoln Smith, Emilia Smith, Oliver Smith (Taylor); and Ezekiel “Zeke” Bowman of Ruston, LA (TJ). She is preceded in death by her husband, John Smith of Vienna, WV and her parents, Rev. George E. and M. Alice Thomas of Penny Farms, FL.

Pat was born on June 6, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Rev. George E and M. Alice Thomas. She graduated from Shenandoah College Conservatory of Music with a major in Piano. She met her husband, John Smith, while her father was preaching in Wood County, WV. They were married on November 26, 1955 in Buffalo, NY.

After John’s service in the United States Air Force, they moved back to West Virginia and lived in Vienna, WV until 2002. Pat retired from WesBanco (fka Commercial Banking & Trust) as a loan officer. Pat enjoyed playing the piano and organ and shared her gift as often as she could. Pat was most recently a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Ruston, LA.

In West Virginia, Pat was a member at New Hope Baptist Church of Parkersburg, WV prior to relocating to Louisiana.

A private family-only funeral is scheduled January 4 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home Vienna, WV with a private burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery North in Parkersburg, WV. Rev. David Easter will officiate the ceremony.

The family would like to thank caregivers and staff of Alpine Skilled Nursing, Ruston, LA who cared for Pat during these last several trying months of her life.
