Graveside services for John Frank Herren will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Harmony Chapel Cemetery in

John Frank Herren of Homer, was born May 9, 1926, in Hico, and passed away on August 12, 2022, at the age of 96. 

He is preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Mary Alice Britt Herren; his parents, Frank Mitchell Herren and Vera Etta Fowler of Hico; brothers, Cecil and wife Mildred, Allen and wife Tommy Dean, Doil and Wayne; and by brother-in-law, Junior Hall.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Barbara Paterson Herren; sister, Margie Rivers; sister in law, Nelda Herren; daughter, Vicki Colvin and husband Loyd; son, Kerry Herren; grandchildren, David Allen, Cristy Kirkley, Melissa Cardwell, John Lee Allen, Paul Allen, and Lindsay Stanley; eight great grandchildren; cousins, David Fowler and Tommy Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank was a lifelong member of Harmony Chapel Methodist Church and attended Pleasure Point Baptist Church after moving to Lake Claiborne in 1979. He loved fishing on the Lake and RV camping. Frank and Mary Alice delighted in traveling all over North America from Mexico to Alaska.

In Frank’s early life, he worked in a local sawmill and later for Rock Island Railroad, getting to work by hitch-hiking or riding a bike. In the early 1950s he began working for Texas Gas and remained with them for over 40 years before retiring.

He was known for his warmth and his wit and his friendly outgoing nature, never meeting a stranger. He enjoyed visiting with friends and he treasured his family never missing an opportunity to have a family reunion or get together.

The family would like to thank Shirley Harris, Iris and Diane for years of devoted care and friendship.
