Sunday, October 31, 2021

Jennifer Chandler Kane, 59, peacefully left this world after a brief illness on October 22, 2021, at St. Dominic’s Hospital, in Jackson, Miss.

Jennifer is survived by her daughter, Selena Griffin Himel and son-in-law Bart Himel of St. Amant; and granddaughters, Gabrielle and Avery Himel of St Amant.

She is also survived by two sisters, Sandra Hancock (husband Danny) and Sharon Haddox (husband Lee-Jay) and one brother, Si Chandler all of Ruston.

She is additionally survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents William S Chandler Jr (Billy) and Lola Pearl Holtzclaw Chandler and her sister-in-law, Kay Chandler all of Ruston.

Jennifer was born on December 20, 1961, in Ruston. She was a 1979 graduate of Choudrant High School where she was the pianist and sang in the choir.

She was known around the Choudrant area for playing the piano and singing for numerous weddings and funerals.

Following the birth of daughter, Selena, she attended Farmerville vocational school and began working at Commercial Union. She worked her way up through the commercial insurance world learning about underwriting and earning her commercial insurance underwriter license.

She attended Louisiana Tech University before moving to Philadelphia and then on to Jackson, Miss., where she continued her work in the commercial insurance field. Jennifer was adoringly called Yaya by her favorite little people in the entire world, her granddaughters, Gabby and Avery.

She would drop everything to travel to see them whenever the occasion arose. Most family holidays you could find her at the piano playing and singing various songs with her sister while all the family gathered around to listen.

If there wasn’t a piano around to play, then there would be classic rock music playing on a radio nearby.

You could always bet there was a book nearby her too, as she was an avid reader.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2021, on at 11 a.m. at The Pond, 1843 Hwy. 821, Ruston, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jennifer’s life.

Flowers can be sent to Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Ruston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
