Funeral services for James W. Malone will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020, in the Burkhalter Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston with the Rev. Leslie Stephens and the Rev. Rolly Walker officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home immediately following the service.

James William Malone, 94, passed away at his home in Ruston on Jan. 18, 2020. Mr. Malone was born at Arizona in Claiborne Parish, LA, the son of James Perry and Vera Robinson Malone. He was valedictorian of his graduating class at Lisbon High School (1942), and afterwards attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University) earning a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1947. He later earned a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Louisiana State University. He taught Chemistry, then Chemical Engineering at Tech from 1947 until he retired in 1984 with the rank of Professor Emeritus.

He also served as Head of the Chemical Engineering Department. Mr. Malone was a member of Tau Beta Pi, national engineering honorary society; Phi Kappa Phi; Pi Kappa Alpha, social fraternity; the American Chemical Society, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He was also a member of the Homer Masonic Lodge.

James Malone is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marjorie DeSordi.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Betty Logan Malone; his children Karen Malone Webre (Stephen) of Ruston, James David Malone (Jennifer) of Monroe, and Laura Malone of Monroe; grandsons Logan Perry and Gannon Monté Malone of Monroe; brother Coleman Malone (Inez) of Farmerville; and numerous cousins and friends.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he belonged to the Hale Memorial Men’s Bible Class and later the Willing Workers Class. The family would like to thank Dr. Will Sanders and his staff at Northside Green Clinic and Premier Hospice for their loving care. Serving as pall bearers will be Logan Malone, Gannon Malone, Stephen Webre, Mike Martin, Steve Smith, and John Maxwell.

Visitation is scheduled in the foyer outside the chapel for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, until service time.
