Genevieve (Genie) Adelpha Falke Denny O’Neal

Thursday, March 5, 2020

Genevieve (Genie) Adelpha Falke Denny O’Neal passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2020, at 94 years old.

Genie was born on Friday, June 19, 1925, to Ethel Simpson and Jesse William Falke on a farm eight miles outside of Carrollton, MO, the youngest of 10 children.

She married Lee Livingston Denny in 1945 and they raised two children together: Judith (Judy) Ann Denny and Benjamin (Benny) Lee Denny.

Lee passed away in 1964. Genie married George Aubrey O’Neal in 1977, and Aubrey passed away in 2008. Genie lived in Carrollton, MO, Golden City, MO, Tuscan, AZ, Fayetteville, AR, and finally Ruston, LA.

Genie will be forever remembered by her children and their families: Judy and Tom, and Benny and Carol; her grandchildren and their families: Lee and Lee Anne, John and Stacey, Julie and Lebaron, and Michael and Nicole; and her seven greatgrandchildren: Ben, Jed, Trey, Greta, Brad, Paige, and Calvin.

Genie will also be missed by her extended family and friends (of which there were many), especially Judy’s best friend Fran Jarratt, and John McCann, who visited her every week with flowers. Genie was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She is forever treasured for her generous spirit, her caring attention, her sense of adventure, her storytelling, and most of all her love that she freely extended to everyone she met, even strangers who would become friends within minutes. She had a talent for seeing the very best in people and telling them how special they were until they believed it. She was a valued employee at every place she worked. Some of her most notable positions include the Director of Personnel Records at Louisiana Tech, the Administrative Assistant to the Head of the Accounting Department at LSU, and the Administrative Assistant to the Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department at Louisiana Tech.

She took care of her family, young and old, and was never happier than when she was driving on the way to a visit: her dog Ringo in her lap, the windows open, listening to “On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson, and cheering on motorcycles passing by. Her family is comforted by the fact that Genie is now reuniting with her loved ones in Heaven, square dancing, seeing red birds in Arkansas, and watching out for all her loved ones on Earth to make sure they are happy and healthy.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m.. Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the Alabama Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sibley, LA, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

If planning on joining, Genie would encourage you to wear fun and vibrant colors, print or patterns.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Premier Hospice and Alpine Guest Care for the wonderful care they provided our mother.Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kilpatrickfuneralhomes.com.
