Fred Michael “Mike” Revels

Born in Shreveport on February 6, 1953, Fred Michael “Mike” Revels was the son of Jimmie Ann Sutton (1925-2012) and Fred Wallace “Buster” Revels (1924-2012).

He was the beloved brother of Linda and Gayle Revels.

After growing up and being educated in Bossier City, Mike was married to Duane Spencer on September 7, 1972 and was blessed with two children, Lorah Elizabeth Revels (1973) and James Artis Revels (1976).

Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home, in the loving care of his family, on Sunday morning, November 21, 2021.

After a period of work as an automotive engine mechanic in Bossier City, Mike moved his family to the Mineral Springs community in Lincoln Parish, where the Revels family had been farmers and livestock growers for five generations, along with their extended family of kin such as the Brothers, Colvins, Kinsmans, Gills, Wrights and Barnetts.

In Lincoln Parish, Mike worked many years as a manufacturing equipment maintenance person in the particle board manufacturing industry. He also farmed, raised livestock and had begun tree farming on the Revels family land surrounding the Mineral Springs area of Dubach.

Mike was a confirmed, Christian believer and worshiped in Baptist churches in Ruston and Mineral Springs during his later years. He currently worshiped at the Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Mike was a man who could always be counted on for help and support by family, friends and neighbors.

From 2000 to 2012, while working full time in industry, he provided physical, health, dietary, personal affairs management, and personal hygiene support for his parents, allowing them to finish their lives in their home, where they wished to be instead of in a nursing home.

When his father suffered later-life care issues, Mike found him appropriate care and visited him daily to ensure “Buster” the best quality of life possible. He was a loving, dedicated son and care giver for his parents.

He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the out-ofdoors on as many occasions as possible.

Mike is survived by his sisters, Gayle Revels Parker (Don) of Elkhart, Indiana and Linda Revels Gates (Greg) of St. Charles, Missouri; his daughter, Lorah Revels Ratliff and two grandsons, Jacob and Joseph Ratliff of Mineral Springs; his son, James Artis Revels, Sr. and three grandchildren, James A. Revels, Jr. of Waco, Texas, and Emma and Spencer Revels of Carencro.

He is also survived by an aunt, an uncle and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his commitment to service, Mike has dedicated his remains to clinical research and education at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport.

Private memorial services will occur within the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike should be made to The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana at https:// www.kidneyla.org.
