Elizabeth Tallulah “Betsy” Gilbert passed away on February 14, 2021, at her home in Glen Rose, Texas.

Betsy was born on in Ruston on January 22, 1951, to Elizabeth and Dan Gilbert.

Betsy attended Ruston primary and secondary schools and received her B.A. in Journalism from Louisiana Tech University in 1973. Following graduation from Tech, she pursued a career as a freelance writer, which gave her the opportunity to work and live in a variety of places including Atlanta, New Orleans, San Francisco, Denver, and Oxford, MS until eventually settling in Texas.

She was a talented and versatile writer whose skills allowed her to work on projects ranging from technical manuals, various media projects, and writing/editing novels and screenplays.

Betsy is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by a sister, Anne Gilbert Garay, Ruston, LA; a brother, Daniel Gilbert, Brandon, MS; and many loved cousins.

Betsy will be remembered for her extraordinary creative gifts, her unique personality, and her love of animals — she could never turn away a stray.

Due to COVID, public arrangements will not be made at this time.

Donations/memorials may be made to 4 PAWS in Ruston, River Cities Humane society for Cats, Monroe, LA, or to any local animal shelter.
