Charles Everette Roberson

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to mark the passing of Charles Everette Roberson, at Fellowship Baptist Church east of Dubach, on December 23, 2022, visitation hour beginning at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m. with Bro. Barry Joyner and Bro. Walt Brown officiating.

Casey, as he was widely known, was born in Dubach on December 24, 1938, second child of Garland Hardwick and Adele Colvin Roberson.

He passed from this life on November 25, 2022, nearing his 84th birthday.

Preceding Casey in death were his parents; an elder sister, Carolyn Jeanette R. Laurence; and one daughter- inlaw, Lena (Mrs. Mike) Roberson.

Left to honor his memory are his wife of 65 years, Mary Lane Owens Roberson; four sons, Randy and wife Kathryn, Tom and friend Tamara, Mike and friend Kathy, and Joe and wife Kim; three grandchildren, Cassie R. Colvin and her husband Brent, and Reid and Seth Roberson; one sister, Glenda Roberson; and one brother, Kenneth Roberson; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends, all of whom he really appreciated.

Casey grew up in the Fellowship community surrounded by a large extended family of Roberson and Colvin grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and was reared in and baptized into the membership of Fellowship Baptist Church.

He was a graduate of Dubach High School Class of 1957, and attended Louisiana Tech one year, after which he chose to begin what became his lifelong career as a cattleman and horse breeder.

He thoroughly enjoyed tending to his cattle and farmland, and he rode a horse most days, either tending to his cattle or training a new horse, or just for pleasure. He was able to ride a horse a few times after his stroke with the wonderful assistance of his friend and physical therapist Phillip Carol. For a time during the 1980s he participated in the sport of cutting horses and attended many competitions, which brought him in contact with many new friends.

He brought chuck wagon racing to Louisiana in the late 1980s after attending races in Arkansas, and held the annual Louisiana Championship Chuck wagon Race on his ranch east of Dubach every July 4 weekend for 10 years.

Casey acquired many skills like welding, carpentry, horse shoeing, and dozer operating, during his working life, partly out of necessity and partly because he found these activities interesting and enjoyable.

He became very knowledgeable of livestock auctions, and assisted many small herdsmen with their cattle, transporting their stock to and from auctions, and for several years he helped friends manage Clark Commission Company in Bossier City and often assisted friends with management of other similar businesses.

Casey never drank coffee at home, but he was a near-daily attendee at Smith’s Pharmacy for years, where the local men would meet early to prepare for whatever the day had in store for them.

We can imagine he has joined William Smith, Charles Ruel Colvin, Seth Tatum, Woodrow Cooper, Don Pendergrass, Art Tatum, Lamar and Charlie Green Colvin, Buster Delony, Bro. Doughty, and many others who are having a morning cup in heaven.

The family would like to thank all the medical professionals who provided care during his illness: Phillip Carrol and Bernice Rehab; Janine Wilson, Savannah Downs, and the staff of Ruston Nursing And Rehab; Kim Roberson of Allegiant Hospice and Dr. Kerry Byrnes; all went above and beyond in providing care.
