State should make amends

Louisiana residents and businesses know about taxes all too well.

Last month it appeared we might get some good news about taxes after the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled in Smith v. Robinson that a 2015 tax imposed by the state was unconstitutional. A legislative fiscal analysis found the total amount of unconstitutionally-collected tax is roughly $70 million.

It sounds like good news. Most people would think that $70 million would be returned to state taxpayers.

Think again.
