One runoff in parish’s state Senator races

Out of the three state Senate races affecting Lincoln Parish, only one will go into the Nov. 16 runoff elections.

In the 35th Senatorial District, Republican incumbent Jim Fannin will take on Republican candidate Jay Morris in the runoff.

Fannin drew 39% of the total vote (12,559) while Morris trailed slightly with 36% (11,782) of district votes. Fannin took first by a bigger margin in Lincoln Parish with 44.49% of the vote (2,705) while Morris finished with 32.28% in the parish (2,028).

Republican Matt Parker failed to reach the runoff, picking up 25% of the overall district vote (8,154) and 23.2% (1,459) in Lincoln Parish.

In the 29th Senatorial District, Democratic incumbent Jay Luneau defeated Republican Randy Wiggins with 61% of the total vote (16,196) and 78.76% of the Lincoln Parish vote (2,484).

And in the 33rd Senatorial District election, Republican Stewart Cathey, Jr. edged past Republican Wade Bishop. Cathey, Jr. totaled 52% of the district vote (16,626) and 58.08% of the Lincoln Parish vote (1,014.)
