Doug Gitter had the urge for one final road trip after graduating college.
It was a trip that transformed his life.

“I met the most amazing people who were creating art with the things they had at hand,” Gitter said. “Almost immediately, I realized I wanted to help preserve and promote their works.”

As his father had earlier with a collection focusing on art from southeast Asia, Gitter made Southern folk art the focus of his budding collection. To say he was on the leading edge of what became a trend would be an accurate assessment.
