Sales tax figures can be a bit illusive. Take for instance, the individual business classifications that sometimes show an 80, 100 or even 1,000-plus percent jump over the previous reporting period.

While the increases leave the entities receiving a portion of those tax revenues just plain giddy, their happiness can be short-lived. Just as surely as the projects that inflate sales tax income begin, they also end, often taking the temporary windfall with them.
