In September, 1781, General George Washington moved his army from New York to Yorktown. At the same time general Lafayette moved the French Army to Yorktown.
Admiral de Grasse of the French Navy arrived with the French fleet to form a blockade preventing the British Army from escaping by sea.
The Siege of Yorktown was underway. Following days of battle Lord Cornwallis surrendered to American and French Armies on Oct. 19, 1781.
