Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Eloise Griffin Spillers, age 96 of Choudrant, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 23, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Choudrant with Rev. Tim Johnson and Rev. David Harrell officiating. Interment will follow at Beulah Cemetery near Calhoun under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mrs. Spillers was born August 8, 1921 in Cartwright, La. and entered her heavenly home on September 20, 2017. Prior to her death, she resided at Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in her death by her parents James O. and Vannie Griffin; husband Ocie Roy Spillers; son Donald Roy Spillers; daughter-in-law JoAnn Spillers King; grandson Jason Roy Spillers; brother Otis Griffin and sister Marjorie Brumfield.
Mrs. Spillers was a member of First Baptist Church, Choudrant for approximately 65 years. She was church treasurer, choir member, WMU member and served on many committees. Eloise was a very dedicated Sunday School teacher for many years. She loved the children in her classes, and worked tirelessly preparing lessons each week. She filled hundreds of sandwich bags with treats which the children looked forward to receiving every Sunday.
Mrs. Spillers worked alongside her husband in their family business, O. R. Spillers and Sons Mercantile Store located in Choudrant. For 5 years she was an Avon representative traveling to West Monroe and surrounding areas. She enjoyed cooking for her family where her Sweet Potato Pie was a family favorite! She also enjoyed reading and working in her flower garden. Many friends & neighbors admired her beautiful roses. Mrs. Spillers also spent countless hours canning and freezing vegetables from their garden.
Mrs. Spillers leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Lamar Spillers and wife Lucy and Drew Spillers and wife Phyllis; seven grandchildren: Phyllis and husband Jr. Maddox, Kayla and husband Phillip Grafton, David Spillers and wife Pam, Johnathan Spillers and wife Tiffany, Sandi and husband Stephen Doty, Daniel Spillers and wife Amanda, and Timothy Spillers and wife Rachel. She also leaves behind seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be: David Spillers, Johnathan Spillers, Daniel Spillers, Timothy Spillers, Jr Maddox, Austin Spillers, Dennis Griffin and Mike Griffin.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., September 22, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Choudrant, LA.
