President Donald Trump’s action advancing the Keystone XL pipeline may not create a plethora of jobs in Louisiana, but the move is good for the state nonetheless.

The reason: The accompanying changes the president say he will order should help strengthen the sagging oil and gas industry, the vitality of which is critical to Louisiana’s ability to pull itself out of recession.

The 1,179-mile long Keystone XL Pipeline would link Canadian oil with Texas refineries. And it would, at the president’s directive, be constructed entirely from U.S. steel.
