Many readers will remember Charles Smith, a happy-go-lucky guy who grew up in Ruston back in the 1950s. He and his buddies, a mischievous group of kids, who called themselves the Marauders, loved pranks like climbing the water tower at midnight and shadow streaking behind the screen at the Dixie — mostly harmless fun and dares. But Charlie outgrew those childhood pranks to take on a passionate drive to serve God in mission work and to devote his whole life helping the underprivileged wherever he could and doing whatever he could to assuage poverty and human suffering.
