Throughout the month of October, the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office will be doing their due diligence in making the community a little bit safer.

Maj. Chad Alexander released information regarding LPSO conducting rifle sight in dates from noon to 4 p.m. on Fridays in October.

“The firing line will move only as quickly as the number of firearms instructors on hand can safely manage the number of persons present,” he said. “All persons are reminded to arrive with an unloaded weapon and to always treat each weapon as if it were loaded. Eye and ear protection are required, please be sure to bring your own.”

With hunting season getting underway in Louisiana there are a few tips for all ages.

• Check weather reports before visiting the forest.

• Tell someone where you will be hunting and when you will return.

• Dress properly and be prepared for the worst possible conditions.

• Check hunting equipment before and after each outing, and maintain it properly.
Familiarize yourself with its operation before using it in the field.

• Carry a first aid kit.

• Clearly identify your target before shooting. This will help prevent unfortunate accidents or fatalities.

• Be alert when hunting near developed areas and trails. Other recreationists are in the forest as well.

• Avoid wearing white or tan during deer season. Wear hunter orange or another highly visible color.
