Firefighters, official rescue kitten

Maggie the kitten has all of her nine lives today, thanks to the Ruston Fire Department and city Building Official Bill Sanderson.

Firefighters and Sanderson rescued the kitten early this morning from a storm drain on the south side of Wal-Mart Supercenter.

The kitten had apparently been in the drain for several days. Store employees called the city Wednesday afternoon.

At right, firefighter Kasey Baker watches as David Wells climbs into the pipe in attempt to lure the kitten into a trap with food. But the effort failed.
