In response a recent column which stated that one is ignorant unless it is agreed that racism was a major component of the so-called Civil War, may I suggest some real research — not quoting CNN as a source on the part of the writer? 

The flag by which you are so incensed is the battle flag under which almost 250,000 Southern men fought invading Northern hordes. They were murdered by what were their own countrymen, not for rebellion, not for wanting to overthrow, but for seceding from that which they had agreed to accede.
