Late score lifts Herd over Tech in battle for C-USA crown

Photo by TOM MORRIS/LATechSportsPix.com Louisiana Tech junior running back Kenneth Dixon (28) rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as Marshall rallied with a score in the final two minutes to beat the Bulldogs 26-23 in a rainy Conference USA Championship Game in Huntington, West Virginia.

HUNTINGTON, W.V. — Marshall’s Rakeem Cato hit Deon-Tay McManus on a five-yard scoring strike with 1:50 remaining Saturday as the Thundering Herd rallied to take a 26-23 win in a rain-soaked Conference USA championship game.

Tech’s defense forced four turnovers against the Herd (12-1, 7-1 C-USA), but it was a giveaway of their own that sealed the Bulldogs’ fate as on the first play following the ensuing kickoff, Tech’s Cody Sokol was picked off by Neville Hewitt and the Thundering Herd ran out the clock from there.
