Ruston native’s film ‘Among the Discarded’ explores homelessness

Photo by Shayan Asgharnia- Ruston native Trent Dion Soto spent 30 days on Skid Row to bring awareness to the homeless situation in the United States.

Within the next few weeks, Ruston native Trent Dion Soto hopes to hear a decision from Sundance — or one of a number of other prestigious film festivals — about whether his documentary “Among the Discarded” will be accepted.

Soto, with help from local residents all along the way, has finally finished a film that has been nearly a year in the making. The journey began with a 30-day stay on Skid Row in Los Angeles.
