Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth wasn’t here in the 1940s, but Railroad Park was. And based on a couple of photographs and the recollections of several long-time city residents, the park wasn’t much.

It had no ornamental fountain and no amphitheater seating, just some benches and a lot more green space.

“It was pretty much open,” said Katherine Jenkins, who’s lived in Ruston since 1937.
