Police encourage ‘smart’ giving


In response to recent reports of panhandling in the community, the Ruston Police Department is encouraging residents to be charitable, but to do so wisely.

In reference to citizen complaints of a man going around town asking for money to help pay for a tow truck, RPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Clint Williams suggested that residents could call the garage or tow service themselves and then directly pay for the service.

“We encourage our citizens to be charitable to someone who is in need,” Williams said in a statement. “But we would encourage our citizens to help wisely.”
