First call notifications nixed for Lincoln Parish

The Lincoln Parish Communications District has decided not to renew the contract with FirstCall, the Baton Rouge-based notification company that was providing emergency alerts through phone, text message and email, Kip Franklin, director of the Lincoln Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said Thursday.

Emergency preparedness officials are looking at several new options for notifications to local residents, including a smartphone app. All of the options would enable residents to receive emergency messages quicker, Franklin said.
