Leader photo by T. SCOTT BOATRIGHT- Volunteers were working this morning on cleaning up the damage caused by Saturday’s storm at Bethel Christian School.

All residents who lost electricity during Saturday’s severe weather should have their power back on by day’s end, officials with local electric utilities said this morning.

The National Weather Service in Shreveport confirmed an EF 1 tornado hit approximately 2.5 miles northeast of Downsville at 3:43 p.m. Saturday. The 1-mile long tornado packed winds of 88 miles per hour, Bill Parker, National Weather Service warning coordination meteorologist, said in a prepared statement.

The storm was 75 yards wide and stayed on the ground approximately two minutes, Parker said.
