Historic hotel sees final days

The former Holiday Inn, most recently called the Simba Inn, on the North Service Road is being demolished.

In 1962, when a group of people from Ruston got together to build a hotel in the city limits, they had no idea the next 50 years were going to be full of history they would never forget.

“I remember at the grand opening of the hotel, there were 3,500 people there just to see it,” former hotel manager and co-owner Johnny Maxwell said. “It was something to see.”

Now, 50 years later, the hotel that sat on the service road off of Interstate 20 has been closed, slowly torn down and will no longer be a part of the surroundings that make up Ruston.
