Football: It’s been a fun season

Tech, GSU, preps have supplied plenty of excitement

It might have been raining, but members of the 2011 Louisiana Tech University football team had plenty to smile and shout about when they held up a trophy designating them as outright champions for the Western Athletic Conference this past weekend.

A half-dozen good reasons why 2011 will live in the memories of Lincoln Parish football fans:
• Incredible turnarounds by three teams: Ruston High, Louisiana Tech and Grambling State.

The Bearcats lost three of their first six outings, but bounced back to take wins in their final four regular season games, then in the first two of the Class 5A Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoffs.

The Bulldogs dropped four of their first five contests, but won their last seven and wrapped up an outright Western Athletic Conference championship and berth in the Poinsettia Bowl.
