Ruston police continue to investigate a Monday night incident in which a stray bullet apparently fired several blocks away hit a window of a Louisiana Tech University student apartment.

Shortly before 9 p.m., officers responded to a shotsfired call at the Annex Apartments, located on West Line Avenue. The security guard told police multiple gunshots had been heard and that two males were seen fleeing from the area, Deputy Chief Chad Hamlin said Tuesday.

One of the shots traveled approximately 400 yards and lodged between the panes of a double-paned window at Louisiana Tech’s Pearce Commons apartments. Pearce Commons backs up to West California Avenue.

Students were in the apartment, but no one was hurt, Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes said Tuesday.

“That’s the first time we’re aware of anything like that happening,” he said.

Hamlin said officers found several shell casings on the Annex property. Police questioned one male Monday night, but released him with no charges, Hamlin said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the case to call RPD at 318--255-4141 or Crime Stoppers at 318-255-1111.
