Ruston PD warns of phone scam

Scammers are apparently attempting to trick local residents into providing personal information by impersonating Ruston Police Department officers over the phone.

According to an RPD press release on Tuesday, the department has received information that individuals are making phone calls to citizens and identifying themselves as Ruston police officers.

"The individual(s) that are calling may be advising that the citizen has a warrant and may be requesting personal information over the phone," the release reads. "THIS IS A SCAM! Citizens should remain alert and should avoid sharing personal information with these callers."
