A shooting altercation between two non-students on Grambling State University campus early Wednesday morning resulted in the death of one of those involved.

The university reported that both people involved in a shots-fired incident at the Favrot Student Union were injured.

Late Wednesday afternoon, a Louisiana State Police spokesperson confirmed one of those injured had died. At the time, the LSP had no suspect information.

According to a GSU release, two students received non-life-threatening injuries while fleeing the scene, and they were treated at a local hospital.

Campus police officers were dispatched to the front of the student union around 1:08 a.m. Wednesday. The officers had been told there were shots fired on the scene.

When university officials started their investigation, they found that neither of the individuals involved were GSU students.

University officials said another unidentified person may have discharged a weapon into the air during the initial incident.

LSP Master Trooper Michael Reichardt said students were gathered at a party on campus that was not sanctioned by the university.

LSP is the lead agency in the ongoing investigation.

GSU’s release claims there is no active threat on campus.

This is homecoming week at GSU. The university said it will continue homecoming events as planned.
