LCDBG APPLICATION AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW
The City of Grambling announces that an application for FY 2014 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant (LCDBG - ED) economic development funds will be submitted for the following:
ACTIVITY: LCDBG funds will be used to make sewer improvements.
OBJECTIVE: To provide jobs for low and moderate income persons.
LOCATION: The target area consists of the City of Grambling.
AMOUNT: $400,000.00 sewer improvements
39,000.00 pre-agreement costs and program administration
$439,000.00 total to be requested (LCDBG)

Ruston to seek funds for downtown revitalization

Ruston’s Board of Aldermen has agreed to begin chasing money for two more phases of the downtown revitalization project.
With no discussion and no debate, aldermen on Monday night unanimously approved a pair of resolutions that allows the city to get in line for possible funding for work along Monroe and Bonner streets.

Simsboro approves action on LGAP sewer grant request

Two resolutions and a sewer update were given during Monday night’s village of Simsboro town council meeting.
Mayor Sybil Smalling Foster brought before the council a resolution for the Local Government Assistance Program grant. She said the grant would be used for water repairs.
“The application was supposed to be completed in December,” she said. “I’ve called Baton Rouge and spoke with them. They said there was still time to submit the application.”
Foster said the village applies for the grant each year.

Lady Tigers scorch Delta Devils

Grambling State held Mississippi Valley State scoreless the first eight minutes of the contest Monday night at the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center as the Lady Tigers roared past Mississippi Valley State 62-31 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Yosha Watson led the way for GSU (7-13, 4-5 SWAC) with 13 points while Shakierya McLendon (5 above) and Dierra Ely added 10 points each.

Smith earns dual honors

Kenneth Smith recorded double-doubles in victories over Western Kentucky University and Marshall which earned him Conference USA and Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association Player of the Week honors announced Monday.
On Thursday night in the 69-56 win against the Hilltoppers, the senior point guard dished out a season-high 12 assists while also scoring 11 points.
Smith turned around on Saturday evening and nearly notched a triple-double with matching the same assist total to go along with 12 points and a season-high eight rebounds in an 81-57 win over the Thundering Herd.

MVSU edges past Tigers

GRAMLBING (AP) — Jeffrey Simmons scored 19 points and Mississippi Valley State edged Grambling State 68-65 on Monday.
Grambling came back from a 15-point halftime deficit and tied the game at 65 with 38 seconds left following a three-point play and then two free throws by Richard Freeman.
But Jordan Washington made 1 of 2 from the line, and after A’Torri Shine missed a 3-pointer, DeAngelo Priar hit two free throws with 22 seconds left to put MVSU up by three.
Mark Gray’s 3-point attempt with two second on the clock was off the mark.
