Lady Tigers look to build on big win over SU

On Saturday, Grambling State University took its first Southwestern Athletic Conference win of the season by defeating rival Southern 57-56.
Tha came on a Bre’Nae Andrews putback with seconds remaining that sent the Lady Tigers into a big oncourt celebration as time ran out.
Now the Lady Tigers look to build on that thrilling win as they play host to Alcorn State at 5:30 p.m. today in the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
The GSU men’s team will take on Alcorn State following that game around 7:45 p.m.

Mardi Gras Ball set for Feb. 7

David Hedgepeth and Melinda Maxwell will be crowned King and Queen of the 16th Annual Krewe of Allegro Mardi Gras Ball and North Central Louisiana Arts Council Silent Auction during the festivities at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Ruston Civic Center.
Dukes and Duchesses will be: Sandra and Charles Hart for Dixie Center for the Arts; Amanda and Henry McCoy for NCLAC; Shirley and Randall Barron for Ruston Community Theatre; Brittany and Travis Napper for Ruston Civic Symphony Society and Rachel and Josh Shirley for Troupe Dixie.

Tech burglary suspect caught

A joint surveillance operation by Louisiana Tech and Ruston city police has resulted in the arrest of a Grambling man who authorities believe is responsible for 10 burglaries on Tech’s south campus.
Thadius Payne, 47, of 140 Lee St., remains in the Lincoln Parish Detention Center charged with simple burglary in connection with a string of alleged break-ins that began last summer, Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes said today.
“We’re going to be able to clear up about 10 different burglaries with this arrest,” Hermes said.

LPPJ to meet Tuesday

Officer elections, committee vacancies on agenda

After a special called meeting on Thursday to appoint a new representative for District No. 12, the Lincoln Parish Police Jury will meet in regular session on Tuesday to discuss several proposals, as well as the election of the 2015 officers.
The 7 p.m. meeting will begin with District Attorney John Belton presiding over the 2015 election of both the president and vice president of the police jury.
All jurors are able to put their bid in for the positions.
After the election of officers, the jury will then begin business as usual.
