Tech volleyball falls in season finale

Louisiana Tech (9-21, 1-15 C-USA) forced Conference USA foe FIU to four sets on Sunday, but the Panthers eventually outlasted the Lady Techsters in a 3-1 win over Tech in the season finale for both teams at FIU Arena.
With the score tied 1-1 after the first two sets, FIU (7-23, 4-12 C-USA) cruised to a third set victory and prevailed in the tight fourth set for the win over LA Tech. The Lady Techsters totaled 47 kills in the match and a .152 hitting percentage, but the Panthers of FIU bettered the LA Tech with 53 kills of their own and a .278 attacking mark over the course of four sets

Pet of the Week

Cissy is the daughter of a Yellow Lab and a Black Mouth Cur, and is a sweet baby. Cissy is about 12 weeks old. She is still being house-trained, but volunteers say she is progressing well. She loves other dogs and likes to play. She is brown with swirls of black and hair like silk, volunteers said. Adoption fees are $65. Cissy is in a foster home so call 259-6762 for more information. To see all of the 4 PAWS dogs, visit the shelter at 290 Rodeo Road, just south of Tech Farm Road. The office is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday or by appointment.

Kitten rescued

Tony Scalia, pictured above with the kitten, and John Price of the Lincoln Parish Fire Department were dispatched to a horse farm owned by Merrill O’Neal on Rodeo Road on Nov 11. A kitten had become trapped in the wall of the horse barn. The wall had to be removed to rescue the frightened kitten.

LPSB’s 13th check may spur local shopping

Lincoln Parish School District employees received their “13th check” just in time for holiday shopping.
And with the $50 raise each employee gained,Chief Financial Officer for the LPSD George Murphy said he hopes school system eployees will be compelled to shop locally.
“It’s important for us as school board employees to try and support the local businesses because local businesses are who support us,” he said. “This check comes straight from sales taxes, so I think it’s only right and fair for us to support the local economy.”

Bowden's message held impact

Florida State University football coaching legend Bobby Bowden served as keynote speaker at last week’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes fundraising luncheon and showed he’s as good at guiding young people through the game of life as he is a gridiron guru.
Bobby’s message to those attendance was simple: Nothing is any good without Jesus. Serve him and he’ll make you a success.
