GSU women home Saturday

GRAMBLING — The Grambling State University Lady Tigers’ basketball team will host the University of Tulsa Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
Admission for the game is free.
The Lady Tigers (1-8) are coming off of a tough 90-59 road loss to LSU in Baton Rouge on Wednesday night.
Guard Cierra Ceazer led the way for Grambling with 18 points. Guard-forward Jasmyn Reynolds led the way on the glass for GSU with five rebounds.
As a team, Grambling shot 83 percent from the free throw line.

Bush’s Bearcats win fourth straight game

Ruston High’s boys upped their season record to 9-4 with a 70-47 victory over Lakeview in action at the Bearcats’ annual December holiday tournament on Thursday night.
The Bearcats of Head Coach Chris Bush won their fourth consecutive game behind the leadership of Jerry Melton (29 points, 14 rebounds), Jamaya Burr (13 points) and Raheem Regis (11 points).

A group of bystanders came to the rescue when a man reportedly stole a woman’s purse and attempted to take her vehicle in Walmart parking lot
Ruston Police Department Capt. Tim Parker said his office received a call at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday in regards to the purse snatching.

Thousands lose power

More outages expected

With area storms whipping through the region last night, many residents of Lincoln Parish and the surrounding areas lost power, and roadways became a hazard due to falling trees and limbs.
“We are working diligently to clean up trees and limbs on the roadways throughout the parish,” said Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Major Stephen Williams. “Power outages have been sporadic throughout the parish and there were no major accidents, a few minor ones, but none with any injuries.”

Advisory board looks to 2013

RHS mock crash, traffic summit discussed

The North Central Alliance Partners in Prevention Advisory Board spent their final meeting of the year looking forward to 2013.
Jenny Crume, Lincoln Parish Safe Community Coordinator with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, told attendees at this week’s meeting that she is currently in the planning stages of the annual Traffic Safety Summit. The summit will be held at the Methodist Children’s Home, where it was held previously. She said she would have a more specific date after the holidays.

Drunk driving crackdown

Impaired driving killed 10,000 in 2010

To help save lives this holiday season, the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office is launching a special “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown to stop impaired drivers and to save lives on local roadways.
Sheriff Mike Stone said his deputies will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers and will arrest anyone caught driving impaired. Enforcement efforts will include sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, etc. The special enforcement crackdown began Dec. 12 and will continue through Jan. 1.

Arts workshop for children

Although Christmas break is quickly approaching for area school children, adults are not so lucky. Most places of business only allot for three days of holiday vacation — Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day — to stay home and enjoy time with family and friends. Yet, in an effort to help keep the kids entertained while adults are still at work, the North Central Louisiana Arts Council is offering four, one-day workshops during this time.

Sanderson speaks to Lions Club
