RHS girls win 2-5A track title

The Ruston High track and field team brought home another track and field title earlier this week.
The Lady Bearcats were the 2-5A district champions, while the Bearcats were runner-up.
There were 16 girls and 13 boys who advanced to the regional meet in Lafayette Wednesday.
District champions for the Lady Bearcats were Quanese Young in the high jump, Maya Robertson in 1,600-m run, Keke Wright in the 100-m hurdles and the sprint medley relay which included Brandi Outley, Erin Goree, Hannah Siegmund and Phynecia Richard.

Millsap to receive state award

Ex-Tech star named as top pro player by coaches’ group

Former Louisiana Tech University men’s basketball standout and current member of the Utah Jazz Paul Millsap has been selected as the 2012 Bob Pettit Award recipient for being the Louisiana Professional Player of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches.
The award is given annually to the most outstanding professional basketball player from a Louisiana college, as selected by the men’s college basketball coaches in the State of Louisiana.
This is the second consecutive year that Millsap has received the honor and fourth in the past five years.

Chandler has big day

Josey Chandler of Simsboro High was huge on the mound and at the plate in helping the Tigers stop Choudrant 1-0 in a District 1-B game earlier this week. He scattered six hits and struck out nine batters and had a run-producing single for the Tigers. Simsboro (17-7, 6-1) is at Forest today to determine the 1-B title.

Bearcats edged, 5-4

in

Ruston High School was edged 5-4 by Pineville in a District 2-5A baseball game at the Bearcats’ diamond Thursday.
Tanner Frasier started on the mound for the Bearcats (21-8, 7-3) and went seven innings before Garrett Soileau relieved and took the loss.
Lain Kranz had a double for the RHS offense.
