Tennis tourney numbers increase

I had the unique pleasure of being a guest on a recent weekend at the second annual Eddie Thomas memorial tennis tournament held at Louisiana Tech’s wonderful tennis facilities. There were more than 70 participants in singles, doubles and mixed doubles tennis teams. Last year there were approximately only 45 participants.

Grambling begins budget process

GRAMBLING — Grambling’s City Council passed motions last week introducing ordinances to adopt both the amended 2010 budget and the 2011 proposed budget.

Mildred Gallot will speak to Tech grads

in

Louisiana Tech’s fall graduation ceremonies will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Mildred Gallot, member of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System, will serve as the keynote speaker.
Gallot was appointed to serve on the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System in 2005. She is a resident of Grambling and retired as head of the history department at Grambling State University in 2003, where she worked for 44 years.

Simsboro to hire 2nd police officer

Simsboro will add another part-time police office to their ranks by January of 2011. Aldermen this month voted to amend the 2010-11 budget to include pay for a new nighttime police officer.
Simsboro Mayor Willie Hendricks was excited to see the amendment voted into the budget.
“It was an historical moment,” Hendricks said. “This is a fabulous thing for Simsboro. During the re-election, the citizens said that they wanted additional protection after hours. They said they feel that after dark they want to continue to feel safe.”

RCT play begins Wednesday

Ruston Community Theatre and sponsor Irrigation-Mart are bringing “On Golden Pond” to the stage at 7 p.m. Wednesday -Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dixie Center for the Arts. The play is written by Ernest Thompson and directed by Billy C. Chandler.
