Grambling history continues to be unearthed

There’s not many crevices or creases in the world where the Grambling State University brand is not known.
But sometimes lost in the discussions of the historically black institute is the city it calls home — Grambling.
Of course, Lincoln Parish residents are familiar with the historically African American city that calls Lincoln Parish home, but the history of it was sort of muddled since its inception.
But with the help of a group of locals, the city has now been able to uncover history that might have been lost in time.

Mary Ann McKinnie Eley

Mary Ann McKinnie Eley, age 68, of Ruston entered into her heavenly reward, passing from this life 16-days after suffering a stroke while at her home on November 21, 2017. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ruston. Rev. Dr. Michael Hawley will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Unionville Cemetery, south of Dubach, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Visitation services were held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 PM.

Jury to review CIP plans

The Lincoln Parish Police Jury’s Public Works Committee approved the 2018-2020 Capital Improvement Program plans to be submitted for discussion at the January jury meeting.
That vote was a number of initiatives the jury took during their regularly scheduled monthly meeting Tuesday, which included approving the 2018 budget.
The Public Works Committee approved the program that has planned projects in various street and road improvements and renovations for the next three years.

Nungesser: Budget woes need constitutional rewrite

Tourism agency turns to public-private partnerships to boost revenue options

It’s going to take a constitutional rewrite for Louisiana to overcome its financial problems long term, but that rewrite isn’t likely to come soon, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser said Tuesday.
“A constitutional conventional absolutely has to happen. Are you going to get that with a Democrat governor and Republican legislature? I don’t think so,” Nungesser told about 50 Louisiana Tech University students.
Nungesser’s appearance on campus was sponsored by the university’s Student Government Association.
