GSU hires new softball head coach

in

Grambling State’s softball team has added a proven Southwestern Athletic Conference power with the hiring of SWAC Coach of the Year Nakeya Hall.
Hall is the 2018 SWAC Coach of the Year after leading Alabama A&M to its first 20-win season in 10 years in 2017 at 21-18 (11-7 in conference play) and a share of the East Division title.
She replaces former GSU head coach Wilbert Early, who was fired in May after 12 seasons as Grambling’s softball coach.
Under Early the Lady Tigers went 118-319 and 37-100 in SWAC games. GSU finished 11-29 overall and 1-17 in SWAC play in 2018.

Tech Athletics Communications earns awards

in

Members of the Louisiana Tech Athletics Communications Department garnered seven awards in the annual Louisiana Sports Writers Association sports information contest, the most by any school in the state for the fifth consecutive year.
Malcolm Butler, Kane McGuire, Anna Claire Thomas and Dave Nitz combined to claim two first-, three second- and two third-place awards. Since 2002, Louisiana Tech Athletic Communications has won 85 awards in the contest, the second most in the state behind LSU.
Tech placed in all six of the categories of the competition.

Grambling bowling duo honored

in

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Grambling State University sophomore Danna Galeano and junior Ariel Henderson were selected to the National Tenpin Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
Galeano and Henderson, who are both kinesiology majors, were among a record 268 honorees, representing NCAA bowling programs at 55 institutions.
Each season, the NTCA recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom. To be recognized, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the academic year.

The Village of Simsboro met in regular session on Monday July 2nd, 2018 at 6:00 PM.
Council members present were Alderman Doug Durrett, Alderman Sandy Freeman and Alderman Joe Reed.
Mayor Foster opened the meeting with prayer and Alderman Sandy Freeman led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Foster presented the Agenda for July 2nd, 2018 to the Alderman and asked for a motion to accept as presented. Motion was made to adopt the Agenda for July by Alderman Doug Durrett and seconded by Alderman Joe Reed. Motion passed.
