Firefighters reach out

October marks the beginning of Fire Prevention Month and 50 Cedar Creek kindergarten students came to the Ruston Fire Department to learn about fire safety and to tour the fire station on Wednesday. Throughout the month, many of the elementary schools in Lincoln Parish will receive fire safety education from the RFD. Hillcrest, Glen View, Louisiana Tech Early Childhood Development, Lincoln Parish Early Childhood Center, Trinity United Methodist Church Preschool, Emmanuel Baptist Church Preschool, Temple Baptist Church Preschool and others will all receive instruction.

Cold front to bring rain, winds

With strong to severe thunderstorms predicted, Lincoln Parish Director of Homeland Security Kip Franklin said residents need to stay informed and tuned into weather stations through tonight and Friday morning.
“I think we’re looking at a chance of some damaging straight-line winds,” Franklin said.

Meth found in man’s pants

A Lincoln Parish resident was arrested after law enforcement officers located suspected methamphetamine near his genitals.
Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested Tony Deland Eley, 44, of 1239 Oilfield Road, Dubach, and Harold Lynn Gardner, 45, of 209 Woodhaven Drive, at around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the arrest affidavit, deputies initiated a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 for illegal lane usage.

Rifle range opens today

LPSO allows residents to sight in any guns

Hunters and gun enthusiasts alike will have the opportunity to sight in their weapons this month.
Deputy Sheriff Tommy Doss, organizer, said this is the fifth year the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office has opened the rifle range for residents.
“We have about 300ish people come out,” Doss said. “I’ve seen everything from deer rifles to AKs and ARs to 22s. Anyone can bring any type of gun out there to sight in.”
Doss said the range was first opened because community members needed a place to shoot.
