Every few months residents of Lincoln Parish have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and with the latest edition of Living Well that same idea continues.
Set to come out in Sunday’s edition of the Ruston Daily Leader, residents will be introduced to a variety of topics — including but not limited to organizations such as the Parenting Academy, Hunting for Heroes as well as skin care and men’s health.
But also in the latest issue of the magazine, residents will find out about upcoming arts activities, growing summer strawberries and much more.

Choudrant to celebrate Easter

The Village of Choudrant will hold its Annual Easter in the Village event beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Egg hunts will be held for ages 3 and under, 4 through 5 and not in school, grades kindergarten through third grade and fourth through sixth grade hunt. The event will include games, prizes and more in Choudrant Park, right next to the Choudrant Village Hall.

Families enjoy ‘crafternoon’

Whether it’s hearing a new tale or creating something with their little hands, the Lincoln Parish Library has something for all children on Thursday afternoons in the children’s section of the library.
Crafternoons, which are set for 4 p.m. Thursday during the school year and 2 p.m. Thursday during the summer, allow children and families a chance for an interactive story time experience. The program is open to children of all ages from kindergarten through sixth grade.

RCT unveils witchy comedy ‘All because of Agatha’

Ruston Community Theatre’s next production, the witty comedy “All Because of Agatha,” written by playwright, Jonathan Troy, will run at The Dixie Center for the Arts May 1-4, and is sponsored by Woodard & Clement Law Offices.

Jazzland set to help boys, girls club

The Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Louisiana will present the second annual fundraiser JAZZLAND, a benefit concert for the Boys and Girls Club on May 9 at the Dixie Center for the Arts in Ruston.
The concert will feature noted Southern-rock/soul artist Marc Broussard and open with a performance from Larry Pannell and the Grambling State University Faculty Jazz Ensemble. All funds generated from the event will go directly to support the Boys and Girls Club.

Diamond ’Dogs hit road to face USM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — With Louisiana Tech still in the hunt for its first series victory of the 2014 season, the Bulldogs face a tall task this weekend when they travel to take on Conference USA foe Southern Miss in a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. today at Pete Taylor Park.
Southern Miss (21-17, 10-5 C-USA) has won all five of its conference series played this season, as the Golden Eagles enter the weekend tied for second with UAB and UTSA in the most recent C-USA standings.

Prep softball pairings announced

Choudrant, Cedar Creek to start postseason play with home games

Choudrant High School and Cedar Creek School will be at home as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association softball playoffs begin next week.
The Lady Aggies are the highest seed at No. 11 in Class B and will play host to No. 22 Bell City at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Cedar Creek is the No. 12 seed in Class 1A and will play host to No. 21 Montgomery at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
A first-round win would send the Lady Cougars to a second-round matchup between the winner of Monday’s game pitting No. 5 Sacred Heart against No. 28 Northwood Lena.

Tech tennis advances to CUSA quarterfinals

NORFOLK, Va. — For the fifth time this season Louisiana Tech lost the doubles point but then came back to win with strong singles.
That fifth time was today as the Lady Techsters rebounded with four straight set wins to defeat UAB, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon at the Folkes-Steven Tennis Center.
With the victory, No. 5 seed Tech (15-6) advanced to the quarterfinals to take on No. 4 seed Marshall at 1 p.m. today.

Tech track and field to compete at LSU Alumni Gold meet

For the first time in a month, Louisiana Tech’s track and field programs return to the friendly confines of the borders of the Pelican State. Tech will face several ranked programs Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge.

Dollars & $ense makes sense

Most teenagers don’t have a realistic grasp on budgeting. The Dollars & $ense fair sponsored by the United Way is out to change that by teaching kids how to be responsible with money.
Although money management is probably the most common type of math we have to calculate as adults, oddly enough, most schools do not offer a budgeting or practical financing class in their core curriculum.
