Gunman kills 3 on Dutch tram; mayor says terror likely

UTRECHT, Netherlands (AP) — A gunman killed three people and wounded nine others on a tram in the central Dutch city of Utrecht on Monday morning in what the mayor said appeared to be a terror attack, touching off a manhunt that saw heavily armed officers with dogs zero in on an apartment building close to the shooting.
Authorities immediately raised the terror alert for the area to the maximum level. Dutch military police went on extra alert at Dutch airports and at key buildings in the country as the Utrecht manhunt took place.

BEND, Ore. (AP) — There are challenges that come with running the last Blockbuster Video on the planet.
The computer system must be rebooted using floppy disks that only the general manager — a solid member of Gen X — knows how to use. The dot-matrix printer broke, so employees write out membership cards by hand. And the store’s business transactions are backed up on a reel-to-reel tape that can’t be replaced because Radio Shack went out of business.

Trayvon Martin’s mother to speak at Grambling St.

GRAMBLING — Grambling State University will host Trayvon Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton as keynote speaker at the University’s Women’s History Convocation at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
On the night of Feb. 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida, George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old African-American high school student. Zimmerman shot Martin, who was unarmed, during a physical altercation between the two. Zimmerman, injured during the encounter, claimed self-defense in the confrontation.

Arrests made in nightclub shooting

Incident leaves Ruston man dead, woman injured

Two people were in custody Monday afternoon and more arrests are expected in a weekend shooting that left a Ruston man dead and a Ruston woman injured.
Louisiana State Police spokesman Master Trooper Michael Reichardt said the incident at the Rolex Lounge in Bernice is still under investigation with several more arrests likely.
He declined to give the name of the suspects arrested Monday. He said the arrests came as a result of a joint investigation by the LSP, Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, Union Parish Sheriff’s Office and Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office.

One injured as car strikes pedestrian

A white Toyota Camry struck a pedestrian Monday around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Alabama Avenue and Vienna Street, in front of the T.L. James building. Ruston Fire Department Public Information Officer Eric Brazzel said the woman stepped into the street and didn’t see the car coming. She sustained “lower extremity injuries” and was transported to Northern Louisiana Medical Center.

MedCamps Madness benefit races to be held

The annual MedCamps Madness multi -level cycling tour and/or 5K run will be held in downtown Ruston on March 23 beginning at 8 a.m.
Join the “Madness” and by participating in the 5K run and riders choice of century ride.
Races are divided into a 5k run, half century bike ride, 1/3 century bike ride and 1/4 century bike ride.
The 5K run will start at 8 a.m.; the half century ride will start at 9 a.m.; the 1/3 and 1/4 century rides will start at 10 a.m.
Participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to the event’s designated time.

4 Paws Rescue - Pet of the Week

This week’s Pet of the Week is Kapone.
He is a young Irish Setter and terrier mix. Kapone is a bit on the shy side but he warms up over a nice bowl of dog food. He was found locally with his siblings.
Kapone is up to date on his shots and has been neutered.
