DEAR ABBY

Grandma still waiting for thank-yous
news single (Abby).jpg

DEAR ABBY: It seems the children I raised and taught to write thank-you notes somehow failed to teach their children the importance of being grateful receivers. My two teenage grandchildren have never thanked me for a birthday or Christmas gift. I gave one of them a set of personalized notepaper, but it didn’t spur any action. Birthdays have come and gone this year, but Christmas is on the way. I’m wondering what I can do to reach these young people in a meaningful manner. I’m older now and don’t know how much longer I’ll be around to influence them.

Rabon: It’s time to heal divide in nation

in

There is a sickness in America. The sickness manifests itself in our utterances of words and the interpretations of their use. We have taken certain words and placed them in categories of good and bad.
I implore all of us to examine thoughts, interpretations, and response to the utterance of certain words before we pass judgment on their intent.
Long ago, in English classes and verified by dictionaries, we learned that words have many definitions, which are manifested by the context in which they are used.

Lincoln’s ‘That Was the Week That Was’

in
Bergeron, Nancy.jpg

Back in the 1960s, NBC aired a live political comedy show titled “That Was The Week That Was,” or T3, for short.
The show looked at the events of the previous week through a “you’ve-got-to-be-kidding- me” lens.
Last week was a Week That Was for Lincoln Parish.
